Originally awarded to and installed at The Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge, located in the town of Chatham MA. The 40 acre parcel located on Morris Island hosted over 40 thousand visitors annually. Installed during the COVID pandemic the refill station sat idle for some time. After the Refuge was seriously damaged by storms as a result of climate change this water refill station needed to find a new home.
The refill station was moved to and installed on the property of Pleasant Bay Community Boating in spring of 2024. Their mission is to provide access to boating and marine science education, and to demonstrate environmental stewardship on Pleasant Bay. PBCB is a community where everyone experiences the joys, beauty, and freedom of boating on Pleasant Bay, fostering an appreciation for this unique marine environment. In 2023, they served more than 4,000 individuals of all ages and abilities. PBCB offers both sailing instruction and environmental awareness programs for children and adults.
The placement of a water bottle fill station acts as a reminder to encourage responsible stewardship of the environment. The refill station will help generate less waste and fit well to encourage “carry in-carry out” and use of reusable containers.
