CARE for Cape has provided monetary support in building a MakerSpace that includes 3D printers, plastic recyclers, vinyl cutters and heat presses.  The students will use the new technology to complete “The Charms for Change” curriculum.  This curriculum provides students an opportunity to problem solve real issues and students will be using these technology tools to create a student-run business where they design usable products from recycled plastic.

In June the students developed an art exhibition using recycled materials to highlight the direct impact of ocean debris on Cape Cod’s marine resources. During the summer studentsIMG_0755 will be using these technology tools to build hydroponic vertical gardens using recycled materials. All of the projects will be on display during the Celebrate our Waters Weekend in late September and at the Farmer’s Market as well. These community events will showcase how plastics can be recycled to create new products in our region without being shipped off of Cape Cod, thereby reducing their carbon impact.
