Representatives from Cape and Islands businesses were invited to Cape Cod Maritime Museum for CARE for the Cape and Islands 1st Annual Meeting & Reception. During the meeting CARE recognized their 2014 and 2015 funded projects for organizations including the Cape Abilities Farm, Cape Cod Martime Museum, Cape Cod National Seashore, Center for Coastal Studies, Falmouth Bikeways, Falmouth Preservation Alliance and Waquoit Bay Reserve. They also presented the first CARES Awards to:

In addition, attendees heard from two distinguished speakers who are experts within the sustainable tourism field. Dr. Kristin Lamoureux is the Director of International Institute of Tourism Studies, The George Washington University specializing in tourism and economic development with extensive knowledge in volunteer tourism, ecotourism and adventure travel. Jonathan Tourtellot, founder and director of National Geographic’s Center for Sustainable Destinations for nine years. They shared the benefits of responsible travel initiatives for our destination in order to retain the Cape’s character, preserve its natural environment and to remain competitive. Individual businesses also heard the economic benefits they might receive when partnering on responsible travel initiatives.
